First person shooters can be a bit repetitive once you’ve played a great number of them. Sure, each of them has something unique about them to make them special, but at their core, they all have the same mechanics and gameplay. The Wall is a first-person shooter game developed by Aero Games that puts an innovative spin on the stale FPS gameplay by adding survival game elements. In The Wall, victory won’t be decided by just hunting your opponents and shooting them. It’s going to take a bit more strategy and teamwork to achieve it in this economy-based FPS game.

Survival Game and FPS

The survival game genre is well-known for having resource-hunting the center point of its gameplay. In staple survival games like Minecraft, collecting resources and building great structures is pretty much the only thing to do in it. The Wall takes this emphasis on resource collection and makes it a critical game mechanic in order to win. Players must collect materials such as wood and minerals in order to upgrade weapons and create defenses. One of the best things this game has to offer is that players can build structures on the battlefield. Players can create elaborate defensive forts and mazes to protect themselves instead of just descending into a shooting dogfight. The survival genre’s resource-hunting mechanics integrates so well with FPS mechanics as a result.

Gameplay and Combat System

The three resources that players must collect in The Wall are wood, minerals, and energy. These can be collected by chopping trees, mining crystals, and harvesting the team’s generator, respectively. As mentioned above, these resources are used for creating weapons and fortifications.

In order to win, players must destroy the opposing team’s generator on the other side of the eponymous Wall. There are two game modes in The Wall: Versus and Co-op. Players will play against each other in Versus and against AI enemies in co-op.

Offense or Defense

The best thing about The Wall’s economy-based gameplay is the fact that players are afforded a wide range of strategies and play styles in order to achieve victory. It’s will come down to how they spend those resources. Defensive players can choose to spend their resources fortifying their defensive structures and setting up weapons in order to protect themselves when they are invaded. Offensive players can spend resources creating and upgrading weapons to deal quick and powerful damage that will destroy any defenses the opponents might have set up.

A Fresh and Innovative FPS

It’s clear that The Wall is not your standard FPS. It requires a lot of teamwork and strategy to succeed in this game. That’s not to say that other FPS don’t require teamwork or strategy, but The Wall’s economy-based system means that you have to be creative to win because you can be sure that your opponent will definitely be. The Wall provides users with the freedom to manipulate the combat environment and really work with it to achieve victory, and that makes it so much more than other FPS.
